Lilitu – Goddess of the Leap Year Day

lilitharchivefiles-sftok

Today was such a busy day for me! Though a little voice kept saying you need to post something special today. I kept looking and looking for something special to share but couldn’t find anything that really spoke to me. Then the little voice asked why don’t you check the book 365 Goddess and see which goddess is connected to the Leap Year Day and lo and behold the goddess is non else than Lilitu! Although the book focuses more on the Abrahamic religions perspective of her I am thrilled that today she is celebrated.

In my own personal spiritual shamanic practice I connect with her as Lilitu from the Sumerian accounts (which are very few and far in between). I am happy to say that she is one of my spiritual teachers. So I was happy and excited to see that this is one of her  special days.

Her most common associations are with freedom, courage, playfulness, passion, pleasure and sexuality. Her symbol is the apple however I find that she has a strong association and connection with owl, since Sumerians depicted her surrounded by them and snake with whom she works very close with when performing spiritual healing.

In my own spiritual journey with her, she presents herself to me as a very confident beautiful and dangerous female aspect of the divine. She is after all the Maid of Desolation she has no problem with making the hard choices and she is not one to back down. She presents herself to me with dark hair (like me), voluptuous, partly nude with an air of mystery that surrounds her and is present in her every gesture. I personally admire every curve of her beautiful body. She has taught me many things one of them is how to work with blood magic and the use of poison medicine in my spiritual healing work. When I merge with her I always tend to stand a little taller, my every movement is full of sensuality and confidence. I feel completely enveloped in her scared femininity and sensuousness. She makes me feel strong, daring as well as coquette. I certainly feel her fearlessness and personally, I feel even more connected to my own sexual nature. She is a force to be reckoned with.

Today or when ever you feel lacking any of the above mentioned  qualities and strengths call upon her. She will aid you and show you the way to self love, confidence and personal power. Let’s send her our love and admiration.

PRAYER TO LILITH

Lilith under the Huluppu Tree by Mani Price

by Beth Clare Johnson

Hail to Lilith, Lady of the night!
Your long hair flows outward,
Melding into the shadows
And your black eyes are ancient,
Deep with magic and secrets.

You are powerful and free,
No other being is your master.
You fly upon the wings of night,
And the owl carries your messages.
Since beginning times, you were there.

No man can tame you,
For why should you be tamed?
To be your own ruler is your nature.
The weak ones of mankind
Were afraid of you and called you Evil

Every inner demon
And dark shadow in the night
Has been ascribed to you, Goddess.
But your power and wild beauty
Have survived.

Teach me to be unafraid,
To feel power singing in my veins.
Help me to face and balance
The shadows in my nature,
And to be proud of my sexuality.

Protect me from the shadows
And the darkness that would harm me,
And help me to understand
The shadows that will not.
I thank you, Dark Lady.

Goddess of the Day, Ningal the Lady of the Reeds

As many of you have noticed, I have been missing in action! I have been dealing with a lot of changes in my personal life, they are positive ones but nevertheless very time-consuming and exhausting. It has now been about a month since I have done any serious spiritual work and with that I have been feeling a bit disconnected. So for the past week I have been reconnecting and sending my love and thoughts to my spirit allies.

When I woke up this morning I was inspired to look into my book 365 Goddess and share with you the goddess that was being honored today. As you know I work with the Sumerian Pantheon and it was such a pleasure to open the book and see that the goddess that we are honoring today was the Sumerian Goddess Ningal.

Ningal

Ningal is known in the Sumerian Pantheon as the Lady of the Reeds. She oversees and protects areas where reeds grow and wetlands. Since wetlands are areas that are affected by the tide and the tide is directly affected by the moon she is also commonly associated with the moon. Interestingly she is the consort of Nanna, he is the Sumerian lunar deity. So just as she is affected by the love of her life Nanna, that which she rules over in the natural world is also affected by the moon. Ningal and her beloved where the patron gods for the city of Ur. Ningal gave birth to Utu the Sun God and Inanna the Queen of the Heavens, which were very important figures in the Sumerian pantheon.

So today we take a moment to honor or simply educate yourself about the importance of wetlands all over our precious planet. If you feel called to you can give a donation to wetlands conservation efforts. If you live near one go and try to connect with the goddess and see what you can do to help her protect that sacred natural space.

Once again I am happy to feel my strong connection with spirit and I know that though my everyday life for the past months have been consumed with mundane things, that my beloved helping spirits are always there waiting to connect and inspire me in some way.

Harvest Moon in Pisces 2014

harvest-moon (1)

The harvest moon historically have the themes of abundance and to celebrate the hearth and the home. This is the time they would start stock piling food for the winter which is close at hand. Usually this moon would provide with enough light that you can work a little later than normal while you harvest the fields. This is a moon in the sign of Pisces which is the healer of the zodiac, so performing healing magic during the full moon is a good way to send out wonderful energy to those who needed it. Pisces moon also lends good energies to do dream-work, to expand psychic abilities and practice your creative arts through music, painting, dancing and chanting.

Full Moon Pisces

Personally on this glorious full moon I will be raising energy through dance and chant to send out to all those souls who have asked to be added to my Healing Cauldron this month. I am so looking forward to tonight since I am getting together with a few ladies. We will be connecting this evening with the divine feminine by walking a labyrinth, chanting and dancing under the full moonlight! I am hoping that we are able to fit in a short guided journey to gather insight to further our spiritual growth.

I am also very excited about a new book (that my friend Debi suggested) which I have recently added to my ever growing collection. It is titled 365 Goddess by Patricia Telesco, in it you explore a goddess everyday of the year. It gives you a little bit of background about the goddess and how you can connect or honor her. Today’s goddess is Lan Caihe in the Buddhist tradition she is patron goddess of florists and gardeners. Her symbols are flowers and the flute and she is associated with nature and longevity. She is usually depicted with red shoes to establish her connection to the earth (root chakra) and is portrayed walking while playing the flute or carrying a basket full of flowers. I hope that our activities this evening of walking the labyrinth just as Lan Caihe walked the villages, chanting and dancing invites Lan Caihe to play her flute and revel with us, blessings us and sharing with us her energy.
