Goddess of the Day, Ningal the Lady of the Reeds

As many of you have noticed, I have been missing in action! I have been dealing with a lot of changes in my personal life, they are positive ones but nevertheless very time-consuming and exhausting. It has now been about a month since I have done any serious spiritual work and with that I have been feeling a bit disconnected. So for the past week I have been reconnecting and sending my love and thoughts to my spirit allies.

When I woke up this morning I was inspired to look into my book 365 Goddess and share with you the goddess that was being honored today. As you know I work with the Sumerian Pantheon and it was such a pleasure to open the book and see that the goddess that we are honoring today was the Sumerian Goddess Ningal.

Ningal is known in the Sumerian Pantheon as the Lady of the Reeds. She oversees and protects areas where reeds grow and wetlands. Since wetlands are areas that are affected by the tide and the tide is directly affected by the moon she is also commonly associated with the moon. Interestingly she is the consort of Nanna, he is the Sumerian lunar deity. So just as she is affected by the love of her life Nanna, that which she rules over in the natural world is also affected by the moon. Ningal and her beloved where the patron gods for the city of Ur. Ningal gave birth to Utu the Sun God and Inanna the Queen of the Heavens, which were very important figures in the Sumerian pantheon.

So today we take a moment to honor or simply educate yourself about the importance of wetlands all over our precious planet. If you feel called to you can give a donation to wetlands conservation efforts. If you live near one go and try to connect with the goddess and see what you can do to help her protect that sacred natural space.

Once again I am happy to feel my strong connection with spirit and I know that though my everyday life for the past months have been consumed with mundane things, that my beloved helping spirits are always there waiting to connect and inspire me in some way.

We are now celebrating Beltane and there are many ways in which you can help children connect with Beltane energy. You can help them connect with their creative side and maybe help them discover that spark of passion for something that they will cherish and enjoy the rest of their lives. Maybe take the kids into nature and show them the beauty that lives there. Give them some paints and let’s paint what we see. Take the time to spend quality time with the children in your life. If you don’t have any then it is time to find a venue in which you can be a helpful influence to a child in need. Maybe there is a community program that can help you to do so. If working or dealing with children is not something that comes easily to you then ask Damara to help guide you. You can honor her placing fresh flowers on your altar.

The Goddess Inside the Treasure Box is Cordelia, Go Outside – “You have been indoors too long. Go Outside and get some fresh air.”

Connect with Cordelia and the fairy folk (just don’t eat anything they give you or you will be stuck in that realm jk) Enjoy the flowers that you meet in your path and rejoice under the trees and rays of the Sun. Connect with nature spirits and listen to see if there is anything you can do for them. Feel the cool grass beneath your feet and fill yourself with peace and love from our Mother Earth. Card #1 Cordelia, Go Outside – “You have been indoors too long. Go Outside and get some fresh air.”

Tell me if this isn’t the perfect card for this time of the year. Though in some location it may still feel a little brisk just venture out and let our Father Sun touch your beautiful face and let him embrace you in his warm rays. Go out to nature and see Mother Earth come back to life! See the flowers just peeking through. Take the time to rejoice in the view of all the buds the trees have just waiting to open up and shower us with their bounty of color. Cordelia is the Celtic fairy goddess which watches over the flora over the Spring and Summer months. She is associated with Beltane when we welcome the summer season and Beltane is just around the corner! Enjoy the sun and enjoy the grass beneath your feet and let go of all the old energy that was built up during the winter time. She is here inviting you to once again to come and enjoy nature and receive all her wonder healing. Go out for a hike or pack up a picnic and share it with your loved ones. If you would like to connect or honor her you can release flowers in a body of water, or you can make an offering to the fairies. You can also choose to close your eyes under a grove of trees and connect with any nature spirits that have just awoken from the winter slumber or maybe you can go and see if you can photograph nature spirits with their permission of course. That is one of my favorite things to do. These are some of the nature spirits that I have had the pleasure of taking pictures of.

She empowers you, so you can save yourself. The Green Tara is paired with the Guidance card which is all about seeking support, guidance and direction. These two cards work so very well together. They are both calling to call upon the Divine for help. That you do not have to do it alone. That it is ok to look for help and guidance during your time of need or when you feel weak. It is ok to ask there for that loving support so that we may carry-on on our life’s journey. Remember you are not alone and there are people and the Divine who are more than willing to provide you with the help that you may need, do not feel guilty or ashamed for asking their assistance. Set of Cards #3 Sedna “You are supplied today and all of your tomorrows.” and Gut Instincts – “Intuition, Knowing, Sensing and Trust”

Sedna is an Inuit Eskimo and Alaskan goddess of the Sea who provides sustenance for the body and the soul. She is intimately connected to the inhabitants of the oceans given the fact that they are part of her. The myth has it that she lost the tips of her fingers in a boating accident and they became the whales, seals and other seas creatures. She is another goddess of abundance. Sedna is paired up with Gut Instincts which is telling that you need to know deep within yourself and trust that you will be ok. Live in the moment and do not worry about what the future holds. Know that you will be taken care of and your needs will always be met so enjoy the blessings that you have today. Continue to follow your own intuition and make the choices that are aligned with your highest good and the goals have. A fun way that you can connect with Sedna is by getting a pet fish (if you have a salt water tank) or dedicating a fish to her and every time you feed the fish you can do it as an act of offering and gratitude. Then in times of need you can whisper to them so Sedna can hear you. Another simple way can be to place in your scared space a few seashells and a bowl with water and sea salt.
